Raw fibre in. Finished product out. All under our roof.
Sakura is a value-added lumber remanufacturer. Our plant and high-efficiency sawmill on Vancouver Island turn rough material into specified, ready-to-install product, with a focus on yield: making more from less.
A sawmill and remanufacturing line designed for recovery, not volume
Most sawmills are built for throughput: high output, low recovery, with the balance of the log leaving as chips and waste. We designed our Parksville mill the other way round. It is a high-efficiency line built to do more with less, recovering more finished product from every log and sending less fibre to waste. Behind it, our secondary remanufacturing facilities take that recovered material further, converting sidecuts, shorts and lower grades into finished product instead of chips.
That matters for the species we run. Western species such as Western Red Cedar (Thuja plicata), Douglas Fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii), Western Hemlock (Tsuga heterophylla), Western Larch (Larix occidentalis) and Yellow Cedar, also known as Cypress (Cupressus nootkatensis) are a finite, premium resource, and a sawmill and remanufacturing operation engineered together for recovery turn more of each one into finished lumber. Together they ensure the best recovery and the least waste from every log we run.

Value-added remanufacturing
Rough and mixed-grade lumber converted into finished and semi-finished products to the customer's specification.
Engineered lumber
Lower-grade material combined into products with a uniform appearance, putting more of every log to work.
Thermally modified lumber
Heat-treated for improved stability and weather resilience in demanding exterior applications.
Consistent specifications, order after order
- Graded to the order. Material is sorted and graded to what the customer specified.
- Dimensional control. Profiles and sizes held consistent from the first pack to the last.
- Moisture and stability. Drying and, where required, thermal modification for stable product.
- Material optimization. A high-efficiency sawmill and secondary remanufacturing facilities that together get the best recovery and least waste from every log and every piece.
- Hands-on management. Operations run on site, with owned inventory and direct oversight.
Responsible sourcing and sustainability
We work with a beautiful and finite resource, and we take that seriously. As technology and best practice move on, we keep adjusting with the times, modernizing our manufacturing processes so that we recover more, waste less and act as better stewards of the environment we draw from.
- PEFC chain-of-custody certified (PEFC/26-31-238).
- Fibre sourced from the BC coast.
- Our high-efficiency sawmill and secondary remanufacturing facilities ensure the best recovery and least waste, making waste minimization a core operating focus.
- Thermally modified and engineered products extend the use of lower-grade fibre.
- Dry, covered storage protects product and inventory.
- Processes and equipment modernized over time to improve recovery and reduce our environmental footprint.
PEFC certified
Sakura holds PEFC chain-of-custody certification, PEFC/26-31-238. The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification is the world's largest forest certification system, and the label confirms that certified wood we supply can be traced back to sustainably managed forests.
